Frog's-eye view of broadleaved trees, overlayed with text: Places, Landscape, Architecture, Communication, Exploration, Storytelling

  • Studio PLACES creates original projects on the nexus of landscape architecture and communication. Research, design, writing, and publishing are connected to explore and share new visions on the landscape. Because landscapes determine how we live, with each other, with available resources, now and later.

    About

  • Places can mean different things to different people. What does that mean for the way we interact with urban forests and each other? Through PhD research at Newcastle University, UK, this research project explores how the notion of belonging impacts equitable access to urban forest qualities. Place-based narratives are unearthed in collaboration with experts from local communities. The storytelling approach will result in a series of co-produced illustrated urban forest stories.

    Connect with ongoing explorations

  • Sharing stories, telling each other about our experiences, our lessons learned: we all have stories to tell. They can be heard in our writing, our art, our music, our voices, our bodies. Sometimes a story is rooted in your little toe, and sometimes the story comes to you through a beautifully stunning landscape. Are you listening?
