workshop series | Who belongs in the Urban Forest?

Who belongs in a forgotten urban forest like Gateshead Riverside Park? Would children play here, is it a place to walk your dog, or should humans only pass through on their bikes to the Newcastle city centre? And what about the forest itself: which trees, plants and animals live here? What other creatures made a hidden home between the leaves and roots on the Rabbit Banks?

This workshop series invites you to join the trees, the animals, the fairy tales and researcher Lotte Dijkstra in the Riverside Park to collect, make and share stories about the urban forest. Each workshop consists of storytelling exercises and story sharing; the Riverside Park both workshop location and stories’ inspiration.

The workshops are part of ongoing PhD research at Newcastle University about Intersectional Belonging, and funded by a HaSS Pioneer Award from the Institute of Social Science at Newcastle University.
