EFUF 2023 workshop | Sharing Urban Forest Stories

  • The Congress Centre of the University of Agriculture of Kraków 46 Aleja 29 Listopada Kraków, Małopolskie, 31-425 Poland (map)

workshop intersectional belonging in practice

Share your urban forest thoughts, ideas and experiences in this collaborative place-based storytelling session. Through questions and exercises like writing, drawing and picture taking, we will explore what the urban forest in Kraków means to us, how we feel about it, and what we would like to change about it to increase our sense of belonging.

The workshop is part of ongoing PhD research on intersectional belonging and equitable access to urban forest places, and lets you experience these concepts in practice. Please read this information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. If you choose to join the workshop, you will be asked to sign a consent form. Whatever choice you make, you are free to withdraw at any time, without giving any reason and without any penalty or loss of benefits.

Purpose of the workshop

The workshop intends to demonstrate how the concept of ‘intersectional belonging’ can be applied in urban forest practice, and to explore how the method can inform planning, design and management of urban forests. The results will be incorporated in the ongoing PhD study ‘Intersectional Belonging: Exploring Senses of Belonging for Equitable Access to Urban Forest Places across Communities’.

This workshop is the companion event to the presentation by Lotte Dijkstra during parallel session 2, ‘Human health and well-being aspects of urban green spaces’, on Thursday, 25 May 2023, 11:00 – 12:45. You don’t have to attend the presentation to be able to join the workshop.

Taking part

The workshop will take place in the afternoon of Thursday, 25 May 2023, from 13:45 to 15:00. We will meet at the EFUF registration desk for a short introduction and to sign the appropriate consent forms. We will then walk to a nearby urban forest location outside (max. 5 minutes) and stay outside for the duration of the workshop. Please make sure to dress appropriately. You don’t have to have prior experience with co-creation sessions, and you do not have to prepare anything for the session.

What information will be collected, and who will have access to the information collected?

We will use:

1)     The creative contributions that you will produce during the workshop;

2)     Your name and contact details (telephone number or email address) to contact you about the results study (optional);

3)     Any personal details you share through your creative contribution, such as your professional background, personal beliefs, and connection to nature. The personal details will be de-identified and anonymously processed: they cannot be traced directly to you.

4)     Recordings of the workshop, like photos, video and sound recordings.
